From college students to experienced professionals before sending in resumes for jobs, the most important thing to do for yourself is to build your personal brand. You need to know what you stand for and how people depict you before you should start writing about yourself. Using social media, personal blogs, business cards, etc. are key to introducing yourself to the world. Here are some effective ways to successfully market yourself:

Build a Community:

  • Create a network of like-minded people. Being able to connect deeply and professionally with others in your field help you all gain knowledge and new possibilities through each other's connections. 


Identify your Strengths and Weaknesses: 

  • Understand the tasks that you complete well and what you may struggle with. Try to put what excites you about your career into words, this will help you determine what you want to put the majority of your energy into. Consider how you can bring these elements together and how you can use them to benefit your weaknesses. 
Help Others:
  • Being open to new experiences and helping where ever and whenever it may be asked of you will impress those you are helping. Willingness to work is typically an important quality looked for during a hiring process, being able to embed that goal in your daily life will make it easy to continue this process in your future career.

  • While networking with professional they may not give you the time of day. Coming up with a quick one-minute pitch about yourself and your interest will allow you to quickly fit in your information at any time. Follow up your pitch with a business card!

  • Continually ensure that all information on your resume is up to date. You want your resume print ready at all times in the case that you need to provide it in a quick situation.
