Building a Fan base

With all the unlimited social media platforms it is certainly much more straightforward for musicians to promote themselves and their work. Building a fan-base through a personal connection with fans is what is desired through these platforms. Creating a brand for themselves, artists are able to control how they want the public to view them, what kind of identity they want their fans to see. Allowing fans to connect personally with the musicians creates a stronger fanbase than what was used to be seen.
A perfect example of this strong relationship would be the band, The Maine. This band has revolved their career around their fans from the start. Constantly involving them on Twitter or Instagram by posting photos with fans, responding to their tweets, and overall just being very personable and fun allows their fans to be comfortable and feel that unique connection. Back in 2015, the band embarked upon a totally free tour including 13 dates around the country. Drummer, Patrick Kirch said, “We just want it to be a big party and an opportunity for people who can’t afford to buy a ticket to come,” (Rogers)  this gained the band a lot of respect and popularity. Giving back to their fans and allowing new fans to come for free, really helped breach out their fanbase.
